What a vCard contains
Each line is a field: name, company, job title, phone numbers, emails, website, address and, optionally, a photo. The most widely used versions are 3.0 (RFC 2426) and 4.0 (RFC 6350). This is a simplified version 3.0 example:

- iPhone: tapping the file or the “Save contact” button shows the contact card with the option to create a new contact.
- Android: it opens with the Contacts app, which offers to save or import it.
- Computer: import it into Outlook, Google Contacts or the macOS Contacts app.
Two ways to put a vCard in a QR code
NexoCard generates both: the dynamic QR code, recommended for everyday use, and the direct vCard QR code for places with no connection.
| vCard inside the QR code | QR code to the digital card | |
|---|---|---|
| Needs internet | No | Yes |
| Contact photo | Doesn't fit | Yes, in the downloaded vCard |
| If details change | The QR code must be regenerated and reprinted | Updates without reprinting |
| Code size | Denser the more data it holds | Always small and easy to scan |
| Scan analytics | No | Yes |
Frequently asked questions
Are vCard and VCF the same thing?
Yes. vCard is the name of the format and .vcf is the extension of the file that contains it.
Can a vCard hold several phone numbers and emails?
Yes. Each phone number or email is a line with its type (mobile, work…), and the contacts app shows them all.
